Steroid Abuse

Take a pill or get an injection and get bigger and stronger fast.  Sounds easy doesn't it?  Millions of people use anabolic steroids as a part of their athletic training regimen to build more muscle.  While some steroids are legitimately prescribed by doctors, much of its use is illegal.

Unfortunately steroid abuse is quite common, among males and even females despite the fact that these types of drugs contain substances similar to the male sex hormone testosterone.  It seems like every day another professional sports player is accused of taking steroids.

Dangers and Side Effects of Steroid Abuse

In boys and men steroid abuse can also cause shrinking of the testicles, infertility, breast development, baldness and reduced sperm count. It also increases the risk for prostate cancer.

In girls and women, steroid abuse can cause male-pattern baldness, a permanently deep voice, facial hair, cessation of menstrual period and the enlargement of the clitoris.
