The Family and Addiction Treatment
Family addiction treatment is an area of concentration for the addiction treatment staff at Stepping Stone Center for Recovery. We believe that drug addiction and alcohol addiction are diseases that over time become family illnesses. As such, all family members, as well as significant others are directly affected by these illnesses. The behaviors and feelings associated with living with addiction often lead to dysfunction in the family system. Family addiction treatment addresses this serious issue. Upon admission to our addiction treatment center, we see and hear firsthand how families have been torn apart by their drug and alcohol abuse problem. Many families and individuals are not aware of their personal behaviors and how they affect the people around them. The Family Recovery Program providing family addiction treatment in our addiction treatment center has proven to be a phenomenal vehicle with which to promote family healing.
The Family Addiction Treatment Program
In a powerful four day addiction treatment experience, we the development of the family system will be explored. The family therapist, a member of our drug rehab and alcohol rehab staff will work with you in identifying and addressing the feelings and issues associated with your relationships. Challenging individual core beliefs that function as a basis for everyone's decisions and behaviors will take place. We will also identify the need for personal boundaries. The last element of the family addiction treatment program is when each family member identifies their role in the family system and how that role manifests itself in their relationships. All of the clinical services that are provided are within the addiction treatment facility to support the person in the drug addiction treatment program.

Family Addiction Treatment and Relapse Prevention
The goal of the family addiction treatment in our family recovery program is to assist each individual within the family to become healthy individuals – meaning individuals who have learned to take responsibility for their behavior and their own lives. The healthier a person’s relationships are, the less likely relapse will occur. Relapse prevention is a significant element of our addiction treatment program. During our drug treatment program everyone begins designing their relapse prevention plan with their primary therapist. The relapse prevention plan should address a person’s relapse triggers and how to effectively deal with them. Upon discharge from the addiction treatment program every person carries with them a copy of their relapse prevention plan.
Intervention and the Family
As with any chronic disease, relapse does occur. Unfortunately relapse occurs far too often with drug rehabilitation and alcohol rehabilitation. In most cases, it is because a person chose not to follow their relapse prevention plan. If relapse does occur, don’t be ashamed; get back into drug rehab as soon as possible. If denial has set in and the person is resistant to going back to rehab, then call the Stepping Stone addiction treatment facility to design an intervention for you. An intervention should be coordinated by a trained professional and not done by the family alone. The final goal of any intervention is a quick and immediate admission to an addiction treatment program. Stepping Stone’s addiction treatment staff will help you locate a person trained in intervention in your area, if we can not be of assistance.
