Drug and Alcohol Treatment Philosophy
Philosophy
There have been tremendous advances in the treatment of addiction, alcoholism and dual disorders over the last decade or so. In this new era of addiction treatment, Stepping Stone Center for Recovery has remained on the "cutting edge" in providing state of the art treatment for its patients.
The Alcohol Rehab That Treats the Whole Person
Stepping Stone’s alcohol rehab believes in treating the "whole person", not just their symptoms. Our alcohol rehab program embraces the philosophy that we are treating a three fold disease of the mind, body and spirit. Furthermore, research has shown and we believe the person who requires drug and alcohol rehab has developed a “brain disease”, where the brain has been greatly affected through years of drug addiction and alcohol abuse. This is experienced in continual changes in a person's mood, an impaired thought process which results in many self destructive decisions, continuous cravings and compulsion to use drugs regardless of the consequences. There is further evidence which demonstrates in many cases, through abstinence, time and an effective alcohol treatment program, the brain can and will regenerate itself.
Components of treating the "whole person" in our addiction treatment center:
- Medical Stabilization - while in our drug and alcohol detox program
- Psychiatric Stabilization – takes place in the detox program and drug rehab
- Medication Management Issues – generally takes place during drug and alcohol rehab
- Nutritional Balance – begins in detox, but takes shape in the drug rehab program
- Emotional Healing – thru experiential therapy in our drug rehab program
- Family and Relationship Healing – family program begins in alcohol and drug rehab
- Relapse Prevention – a key treatment component in alcohol and drug rehab
- Spiritual Development – throughout the entire alcohol rehabilitation program
- Challenging of Belief Systems - begins in drug rehabilitation program
- Life and Career Choices – addressed during discharge planning in alcohol rehab
- Physical Health and Well Being – throughout drug rehab and alcohol rehab program

Self Help Groups and Our Alcohol Rehab Program
Our alcohol rehab program and drug rehab program staff at Stepping Stone Center for Recovery believe 12 step programs or self help programs provide our patients with the best opportunity to maintain long term recovery. While in drug and alcohol rehab our patients will attend meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous to help them understand their dynamics. This will help ease the transition into these fellowships after discharge from the alcohol rehabilitation program.
Alcohol Rehab, Drug Rehab and Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Another element to consider in drug and alcohol treatment is the philosophy a drug treatment program or alcohol treatment center has in relation to dual diagnosis treatment. Studies have shown that over 60 percent of the men and women entering drug and alcohol treatment suffer from a co-occurring mental health condition. This is referred to as "dual diagnosis" or a dual disorder. Some examples may be anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder or post traumatic stress disorder in conjunction with a drug addiction or alcohol addiction. The staff at Stepping Stone’s drug and alcohol rehab believe it is imperative that both substance abuse issues and mental health issues be addressed concurrently, while the person is in the drug treatment program or alcohol rehab. Far too many recovering people have relapsed after drug and alcohol treatment in an attempt to self medicate their anxiety, depression or bipolar disorder, which may have been a direct result of their untreated dual diagnosis. It is for this reason we address mental health issues while the person is still in our alcohol rehab program.
