Research has shown that over fifty percent of the people admitted suffer from a dual disorder or dual diagnosis. Dual diagnosis is the co-existence of an alcohol or drug addiction and a psychiatric disorder; such as depression and drug addiction or an eating disorder and alcoholism. The treatment of dual diagnosis takes skill, knowledge and experience. At Stepping Stone, we have a board certified psychiatrist who is also trained in addiction medicine. Accompanying our psychiatrist is a psychiatric A.R.N.P. and clinicians who have a wealth of experience in the field of dual disorder treatment. The philosophy at Stepping Stone is to treat both disorders concurrently. If one disorder is left untreated the risk for relapse is almost one hundred percent.
