Prescription Drug Addiction
Codeine Addiction
A commonly prescribed painkiller, codeine is also one of the most common prescription drugs that patients develop an addiction to. The codeine addiction starts setting in when the patient eventually begins to tolerate the medication. In many cases, this can be as quickly as two to three weeks. In order to get the same level of relief as when they were first prescribed the medication; many people choose to take more than the dose that the doctor prescribed. The longer one takes drug, and the more their dosage is increased, the more serious the codeine addiction becomes.
Codeine Withdrawal
Once a codeine addiction has developed, it can be very difficult to stop using the drug. In fact, if an attempt is made to stop using the medication, the individual will experience uncomfortable and sometimes very painful withdrawal symptoms. The symptoms common to codeine withdrawal include, but are not limited to:
- Muscle twitching and spasms
- Sweating
- Stomach cramps
- Muscle pain and weakness
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Insomnia
- Fever
- Elevated blood pressure
- Runny nose
- Irregular heartbeat
By entering a medically-based detox and rehabilitation program, codeine withdrawal symptoms can be reduced or even eliminated, thus allowing for a safer, more effective recovery.
Codeine Addiction Treatment
Codeine addiction treatment starts with a complete detoxification in which all traces of the drug are eliminated from the body. Once that process is complete, the patient will then move on to the rehabilitation portion of treatment. In rehab, the individual will receive a personalized plan of treatment, unique to their case. The customized plan is necessary for dealing with the variety of secondary issues many people suffer from besides their addiction. These can include:

TESTIMONIALS
I know you will never believe it but it has been ten and a half months since I finished treatment and am still in recovery. I know you will say it may be more of a miracle that I finished rehab being that I was about as resistant a patient can be, but I am making it one day at a time. Special thanks to Robert.
-- Terrance G, Morristown, New Jersey
This is to my therapist Bobby, who never gave up on me. I could never have made it through rehab without your patience. You taught me that I am worth it.
-- Bryan, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
My life was a shambles, my husband wanted a divorce and my children wouldn't speak with me. I felt hopeless until we all got together for family treatment. While we all have some hills to climb, my recovery is solid. Who would have thought, 476 days sober. Love to all.
-- Patti P, Atlanta, Georgia
You guys were right when you told me to get right into meetings. They have kept me clean and sober and I have made a lot of good friends. Thanks for bringing meetings into rehab.
-- Dean W, Dallas Texas
