Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is understandably one of the leading causes of drug addiction, but what many people don’t understand is that an addiction can actually make the pain worse over the long-term. Chronic pain can affect one’s mental state, their physical health and ultimately, their entire way of life.

What is Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain is defined as pain that has existed for a minimum of six months, even after the responsible condition has been treated. In some cases, it is believed that certain individuals may even be predisposed to suffering from this condition. These individuals are most likely those who have suffered traumas early-on in life or they have a personal or family history of addiction.

The existence of mental health disorders, especially in those also suffering from an addiction, can also be responsible for the development of chronic pain.

What are the Symptoms of Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain frequently goes hand in hand with depression and other mood alterations. The constant stress from the pain can result in frequent mood swings, from irrational anger to feelings of isolation. Other symptoms can include:

  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Physical depreciation
  • Lack of sex drive
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Confusion
  • Low self-esteem

Pain can also cause problems within the family or in other relationships, legal problems, financial problems or work-related problems.

Overcome Chronic Pain by Overcoming Your Addiction

Stop turning to drugs as a solution to your pain issues. In most cases, the drugs are actually causing a reverse effect. Research shows us that once a chronic pain sufferer goes through detox they quite often notice a significant reduction in their pain.

TESTIMONIALS

I know you will never believe it but it has been ten and a half months since I finished treatment and am still in recovery. I know you will say it may be more of a miracle that I finished rehab being that I was about as resistant a patient can be, but I am making it one day at a time. Special thanks to Robert.

-- Terrance G, Morristown, New Jersey

This is to my therapist Bobby, who never gave up on me. I could never have made it through rehab without your patience. You taught me that I am worth it.

-- Bryan, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

My life was a shambles, my husband wanted a divorce and my children wouldn't speak with me. I felt hopeless until we all got together for family treatment. While we all have some hills to climb, my recovery is solid. Who would have thought, 476 days sober. Love to all.

-- Patti P, Atlanta, Georgia

You guys were right when you told me to get right into meetings. They have kept me clean and sober and I have made a lot of good friends. Thanks for bringing meetings into rehab.

-- Dean W, Dallas Texas
