Social Phobia Treatment

Social phobia is an anxiety disorder that causes severe anxiety and nervousness in everyday social situations. Social anxiety disorder includes fear of embarrassing oneself in any situation. Activities such as waiting in line or speaking in front of others can cause paralyzing anxiety. Despite understanding that these fears are irrational, a person suffering from a social phobia is unable to move past the anxiety.

Most people feel nervous or anxious in some social situations. However, those with social phobia have a persistent and chronic fear that interferes with everyday functioning. Social phobia can become so severe it affects work, family, and the ability to maintain relationships.

Physical signs of social anxiety disorder (social phobia):

·         Pounding heart

·         Sweating

·         Trembling

·         Dizziness

·         Dry mouth

·         Rapid breathing

Drugs and alcohol can mask the symptoms of social anxiety disorder. However, once drugs and alcohol are removed, the symptoms of social phobia will still be present. The fear will again send the patient out seeking a way to manage feelings caused by the mental health disorder.

Stepping Stone has a comprehensive dual diagnosis treatment model that can help patients suffering from co-occurring disorders recover. You can break the bonds of addiction and learn how to manage your social anxieties.

TESTIMONIALS

I know you will never believe it but it has been ten and a half months since I finished treatment and am still in recovery. I know you will say it may be more of a miracle that I finished rehab being that I was about as resistant a patient can be, but I am making it one day at a time. Special thanks to Robert.

-- Terrance G, Morristown, New Jersey

My life was a shambles, my husband wanted a divorce and my children wouldn't speak with me. I felt hopeless until we all got together for family treatment. While we all have some hills to climb, my recovery is solid. Who would have thought, 476 days sober. Love to all.

-- Patti P, Atlanta, Georgia

You guys were right when you told me to get right into meetings. They have kept me clean and sober and I have made a lot of good friends. Thanks for bringing meetings into rehab.
