Heroin Addiction TreatmentThe Stepping Stone Center for Recovery Can Help Ease Withdrawal from HeroinHeroin is an opiate, a substance that induces relaxation, dullness to pain, and sleep. It is typically injected or snorted, although it can also be smoked or ingested. Users of the substance desire euphoria and relaxation. However, regular use increases tolerance and more heroin must be used to get the same sense of ease. Some slang terms for heroin are “dope,” “H,” and “smack.” Symptoms and Side Effects of Heroin AddictionHeroin effects include drowsiness, constricted (“pinpoint”) pupils, loss of appetite, runny nose, cough, nausea, nodding, clammy skin, shallow breathing, and convulsions. Paraphernalia associated with the drug include syringes and bent spoons. Heroin users may have scars (often called “tracks”) caused by injections. Heroin addiction can lead to serious health complications such as pulmonary disease, collapsed veins, liver disease, an infection of the heart, contraction of hepatitis C or HIV/AIDS from needle use, kidney disease, skin infection, and possible death. Individuals afflicted with heroin addiction may withdraw from social interactions, damaging marriages, interpersonal relationships, and employment opportunities. They may also have financial struggles leading to homelessness, malnutrition, and stealing. TESTIMONIALS
I know you will never believe it but it has been ten and a half months since I finished treatment and am still in recovery. I know you will say it may be more of a miracle that I finished rehab being that I was about as resistant a patient can be, but I am making it one day at a time. Special thanks to Robert. -- Terrance G, Morristown, New Jersey My life was a shambles, my husband wanted a divorce and my children wouldn't speak with me. I felt hopeless until we all got together for family treatment. While we all have some hills to climb, my recovery is solid. Who would have thought, 476 days sober. Love to all. -- Patti P, Atlanta, Georgia You guys were right when you told me to get right into meetings. They have kept me clean and sober and I have made a lot of good friends. Thanks for bringing meetings into rehab. -- Dean W, Dallas Texas |
