Depression Treatment Center Programs

Depression is a psychiatric illness. Individuals suffering from depression don’t just feel occasionally sad or “blue,” their symptoms are overwhelming and often interfere with daily life. The illness can seriously affect an individual’s relationships, work or school life, sleeping habits, eating habits, and general health.

Signs of Depression

  • Low mood that pervades every facet of one’s life
  • Inability to enjoy activities that were once enjoyed
  • Feeling of hopelessness
  • Feeling of worthlessness or self-hatred
  • Guilt or regret with no apparent cause
  • Poor concentration or memory
  • Thoughts of suicide or death

Treatment for Depression at Stepping Stone

Individuals at Stepping Stone who suffer from depression in addition to their addiction will have a dually diagnosed treatment plan that combines psychological, medical, and substance abuse elements.

Psychological counseling is a large component of depression treatment that includes individual, group, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Cognitive behavioral therapy addresses cognitive aspects of depression, specifically the self-defeating behaviors typical in afflicted individuals. CBT aims to change patient behavior and reactions to certain situations. Psychological treatment can help those suffering from depression learn how to cope with everyday stresses in healthy ways, while getting over self-defeating behavior.

Pharmacological therapy, or treatment with medication, is another important part of depression treatment. A medical professional may prescribe antidepressants such as Paxil or Prozac. Depending on the severity of a patient’s symptoms, medication may be needed to regulate healthy chemical levels in a patient’s brain. These levels control mood and behavior. Many find that the symptoms of depression are lessened or eliminated entirely.

At Stepping Stone Center for Recovery, we believe that a combination of psychological and pharmacological therapies and substance abuse treatment is the best approach to treating a client’s addiction and depression.

TESTIMONIALS

I know you will never believe it but it has been ten and a half months since I finished treatment and am still in recovery. I know you will say it may be more of a miracle that I finished rehab being that I was about as resistant a patient can be, but I am making it one day at a time. Special thanks to Robert.

-- Terrance G, Morristown, New Jersey

My life was a shambles, my husband wanted a divorce and my children wouldn't speak with me. I felt hopeless until we all got together for family treatment. While we all have some hills to climb, my recovery is solid. Who would have thought, 476 days sober. Love to all.

-- Patti P, Atlanta, Georgia

You guys were right when you told me to get right into meetings. They have kept me clean and sober and I have made a lot of good friends. Thanks for bringing meetings into rehab.
