Crystal Meth Addiction Treatment

Crystal meth is a stimulant, a substance that increases the rate of the body’s normal functioning. It looks like clear crystals, similar to ice or glass. It can be smoked, snorted, or injected, and it is colorless and odorless. The drug creates the experience of pleasure, feelings of motivation, and intense euphoria. The drug is homemade, using makeshift “labs” and a combination of items from over-the-counter cold and cough medicines to battery acid and Drano. Slang terms for crystal meth include “crank,” “ice,” “meth Christmas tree,” “elbows,” “glass,” “load of laundry,” “sparkle,” “water,” “Tina,” and “yaba.”

Symptoms and Side Effects of Crystal Meth Addiction

Crystal meth use can cause insomnia, aggressive behavior, jerky movements, paranoia, talkativeness, argumentativeness, decreased appetite, excessive physical activity, irritability, slurred speech, dilated pupils, grinding of the teeth, sweating, anxiety, visual and auditory hallucinations, lack of coordination, and convulsions.

Paraphernalia associated with the drug are pipes, metal spoons, broken light bulbs, hollowed-out pens, tin foil, and syringes.

Long-term health risks associated with crystal meth addiction are severe dental problems (rotting teeth and gums called “Meth Mouth”), extreme weight loss, stroke, kidney disorders, lung disorders, brain damage, liver damage, psychosis, an increased risk of contracting HIV/AIDS and death.

Crystal meth addiction can also cause an individual to be involved in car accidents, crime, and domestic violence. The drug adversely affects the user’s personality.

TESTIMONIALS

I know you will never believe it but it has been ten and a half months since I finished treatment and am still in recovery. I know you will say it may be more of a miracle that I finished rehab being that I was about as resistant a patient can be, but I am making it one day at a time. Special thanks to Robert.

-- Terrance G, Morristown, New Jersey

My life was a shambles, my husband wanted a divorce and my children wouldn't speak with me. I felt hopeless until we all got together for family treatment. While we all have some hills to climb, my recovery is solid. Who would have thought, 476 days sober. Love to all.

-- Patti P, Atlanta, Georgia

You guys were right when you told me to get right into meetings. They have kept me clean and sober and I have made a lot of good friends. Thanks for bringing meetings into rehab.
