Barbiturates
Abusing barbiturates is extremely risky behavior. Overdosing is common. Musician Jimi Hendrix and thousands of other people have died under the influence of barbiturates. If you or someone you love is abusing barbiturates, you must seek professional help immediately.
Barbiturates depress the central nervous system. They are commonly used as sleep or anxiety aids. Some examples of barbiturates are Amytal, Fioricet, Phenobarbital and Luminal.
Barbiturate Addiction
While barbiturate addiction has waned since the 1960s and 1970s, it is still a concern since even a small overdose can cause coma or death. Barbiturates dramatically affect behavior. If you suspect a barbiturate addiction in your friend or family member, look out for these signs:
- Drowsiness
- Slurred speech
- Appearance of being drunk
- Confusion
- Lower inhibitions
Barbiturate Addiction Treatment
It is extremely dangerous to try to kick an addiction to barbiturates on one's own. Serious withdrawal symptoms such as tremors, agitations, hallucinations and seizures could have life-threatening complications.
At Stepping Stone Center for Recovery, we offer world-class barbiturate addiction treatment. Our detox center is located right on our beautiful Florida campus and is staffed by board certified medical personnel who monitor our patients' health as they detoxify their bodies and prepare for rehabilitation. Patients receive medication to manage withdrawal symptoms. At Stepping Stone, we try to make the detox experience as comfortable as possible.
From detox our patients continue to our full service drug rehabilitation program. They participate in individual, group and family therapy sessions, recreational and art therapy, educational lectures and more. We provide a well-rounded recovery program that helps patients heal physically, emotionally and spiritually.
You will not find an addiction treatment center more committed to the welfare of each individual. It is our ultimate goal to do everything within our power to help everyone who enters our center in developing and maintaining an outstanding quality of life.

TESTIMONIALS
I know you will never believe it but it has been ten and a half months since I finished treatment and am still in recovery. I know you will say it may be more of a miracle that I finished rehab being that I was about as resistant a patient can be, but I am making it one day at a time. Special thanks to Robert.
-- Terrance G, Morristown, New Jersey
This is to my therapist Bobby, who never gave up on me. I could never have made it through rehab without your patience. You taught me that I am worth it.
-- Bryan, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
My life was a shambles, my husband wanted a divorce and my children wouldn't speak with me. I felt hopeless until we all got together for family treatment. While we all have some hills to climb, my recovery is solid. Who would have thought, 476 days sober. Love to all.
-- Patti P, Atlanta, Georgia
You guys were right when you told me to get right into meetings. They have kept me clean and sober and I have made a lot of good friends. Thanks for bringing meetings into rehab.
-- Dean W, Dallas Texas
