Barbiturates

Abusing barbiturates is extremely risky behavior.  Overdosing is common.  Musician Jimi Hendrix and thousands of other people have died under the influence of barbiturates.  If you or someone you love is abusing barbiturates, you must seek professional help immediately.

Barbiturates depress the central nervous system. They are commonly used as sleep or anxiety aids.  Some examples of barbiturates are Amytal, Fioricet, Phenobarbital and Luminal.

Barbiturate Addiction

While barbiturate addiction has waned since the 1960s and 1970s, it is still a concern since even a small overdose can cause coma or death.  Barbiturates dramatically affect behavior.  If you suspect a barbiturate addiction in your friend or family member, look out for these signs:

  • Slurred speech
